Bereavement Counsellor (One Year Maternity Leave Coverage)

Beth Donovan Hospice (BDH) is a registered charity dedicated to providing specialized compassionate support and respite care to individuals and their families who have been diagnosed with a life limiting or terminal illness. We are seeking a compassionate individual to join our team to fill the following anticipated vacancy:

Title: Bereavement Counsellor
Hours: 21 hours week (may work occasional evening and/or weekends) Anticipated Start Date: June 5, 2017

The Bereavement Counsellor works collaboratively with other hospice staff and volunteers in developing a comprehensive range of services to inform, support, and guide clients and families through the process of bereavement before, at the time of, and after the death of a loved one; educate, train, and support individuals in their professional or volunteer roles as bereavement care providers; and anticipate and respond to community education and community supportive needs related to bereavement.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Completion of a Master’s Degree in Social Work (M.S.W.) or Counselling Psychology is required
  • Member in good standing by licensing body required as per current standards for practicing social work, counselling, and/or psychology
  • Two-three years recent (within the last five years) experience in acute, long-term care or home care/hospice (one year in a hospice or homecare setting preferred)
  • Prior professional experience with grief and loss, and clinical counselling
  • Computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft programs required
  • Maintain files and document in accordance with regulatory and licensure requirements
