Individual, Couple, & Family Counselling

Counselling services are offered at the Hospice free of charge for all those who have been touched by grief and life-limiting illness. This includes those with a diagnosis of a life limiting illness, their families, as well as their caregivers.

As grief does not have a timeline, neither do our services. This means that the loss does not have to be recent in order to access counselling, nor is there a limit on the number of sessions offered. Typically, counselling involves one on one meetings, for one hour either weekly or bi-weekly. Depending on need, couple and family counselling is also available.

As grief is a natural reaction to loss, often the question of when to attend counselling is asked. Counselling is not just for more complex grief reactions, many people find counselling to be helpful in facilitating their grieving process, regardless of the circumstances. However, if you feel that you have become “stuck”, feeling very hopeless, or that your grief is severely and persistently impacting your life, it would be wise to seek out professional counselling.

To access this service, please contact our Bereavement Counsellor, Erika DeSchiffart at 613-258-9611 ext. 6. She received her M.A. in Counselling & Spirituality from Saint Paul University, and is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
